The Story of Skibelund Krat
A hotel with a rich history.
Skibelund Krat Hotel is one of Southern Jutlands most traditional hotels, situated in the historical area Skibelund Krat. The Skibelund association has owned the area since 1869, with the aim to preserve it as a public space of gathering and celebration.
The area is well-known throughout Denmark as a host to large, annual celebrations of the constitution, as well as for the 22 memorials in the park commemorating people dedicated to the liberation of Southern Jutland in 1920, as well as leading figures in the Danish folk high school movement.
Today the hotel is owned by Maria and Michael, who took over from Marias father in 2011.
Michael is a trained chef from Kold College in Odense, who has worked numerous years in Denmark as well as abroad. He is classically trained and has great appreciation for the art of cooking, as well as great produce. Thus, we prepare everything from scratch, using only produce vendors with whom we have a close, trusting relationship.
I grew up in the environment, with parents who were business owners in the restaurant business ever since I was a child. I have an undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Southern Denmark, as well as multiple years of experience from the hotel business.
Having lived in and around the hotel for years, we moved to nearby Askov in 2018 with our two children, Sarah and Frederik.
Today we employ a staff of approximately 40 people. The kitchen has 3 chefs and 2 apprentices. We have 2 full time waiters, as well as 25 part-time waiters depending on the season. Furthermore, we have 5 dish washers and 3 members of our cleaning crew.
To us, having a hotel is a lifestyle we love. We like how the days are never the same and we enjoy satisfying our guests. Together with our staff, we do our very best to make our guests feel welcome at Skibelund Krat Hotel.
